At Helstrom Farms, we spend time making our soil healthy…
Which makes our pastures healthy…
Which makes our animals healthy.
And at the end of the day, we invest in healthy, organic processes for one reason:
so that you are healthy.
When our animals eat well, so do you.
From what they eat to how they graze, our animals are raised and fed according to careful holistic farming practices.
Soil that is full of life (bugs, worms, microbes etc.) is soil that supports a strong root system and lush, healthy, natural growth. And that healthy, natural growth is full of the minerals and nutrients animals need.
Our cattle are quickly rotated through a practice called “mob-grazing” to imitate the Bison who once roamed the lush, fertile prairies of North America. We believe this method of holistic farming creates a superior, healthier product. It allows us to work with nature rather than against it.
Here’s how it works:
Mob-grazing works in harmony with the natural process of nature. The cattle essentially aerate, plant, and fertilize the soil in which their own food grows. By moving cattle every 12 hours into a different segment of land, the healthy soil is built by giving roots time to establish in new growth.
Our grass-fed beef is True Organic, giving our customers the assurance that the food they eat from Helstrom Farms is free of additives, hormones, pesticides, or unnatural supplements.
Our pasture-raised chickens, equally, have been given no growth hormones or artificial supplements. They eat by using their natural scratch and peck instincts in a free range, organic environment…with sunshine, fresh air, bugs, and grass.

Our farming practices build a sustainable ecosystem.
Medication and Hormone-Free Feeding:
While many farms are using chemicals, fillers, and even candy and processed food scraps to feed their cattle, Helstrom Farms is committed to sustainable True North Woods Organic* Farming Practices. By using no pesticides or growth hormones in our plants or feedings, we are not introducing anything foreign into the ecosystem. Animals are eating organically grown food with no unnatural supplements or artificial additives.

In addition to the benefits of mob grazing for the cattle and the grass that they eat, mob-grazing also produces tremendous results for soil and the sustainability of new growth. It’s practice has actually been used by the EPA to restore land that was not sustaining growth (https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/detail/ia/newsroom/stories/?cid=stelprdb1186272).
Rather than allowing cattle to eat grass down to the soil (and thus weakening the root and reed and ultimately killing the plant), mob-grazing keeps the cows eating off tall stalks of grass and keeps the root systems intact. This cuts down on erosion, restores previously damaged land (damaged from over-harvesting, fires, drought, or mining), and builds up an ecosystem of worms, bugs, and other small life.
By managing where and when cattle graze on the land, the processes of nature are sustained and the ecosystem thrives.
